The virus of indecision

Is there a way to be peculiar to the younger generations of today, you can declare, without doubt, chronic: a way of being dictated by indecision. Yes, you read that right: indecision. As if the uncertainty, hesitation, vacillation, the hesitancy of young people are part of the DNA of the third millennium and determine choices and lifestyles uncertain, unstable and fragile.

It is as if a virus had affected their psychology, their very will to live, their world view.

Ephemeral values and important choices

Certainly the carpe diem, wanting everything now characterize the contemporary youth world second cliché that outline the figure of a teenager or young man who takes the phone, for example, or the web or i-pod as tools and unequivocal identification life of his generation, based on a cult of the ephemeral values and only apparent. But respect and faced with choices that require a major commitment of loyalty, consistency and strength of mind, today's youth seem to waver, decline the responsibility , falling from the clouds, not knowing what to do. As if their life, as regards the direction it should take as adults, depended on chance, the need ephemeral, and not a conscious decision, heard, considered, that both engaging and highly motivated.

A society that confuses

The culture and society in which young people are immersed in an amazing way tend to disorient, to dispose of the stimuli in the deepest, that are not beyond the epidermis or the satisfaction of the senses. Today's culture seems to be tailored to induce young people to delay responses and reactions deep. This anomaly existential clashes, it is not compatible with life choices fruitful, exciting, important, challenging. Young, then, fail to give a deeper meaning to their own daily lives, do not mature and radical ideals of healthy living in terms of 'affections, the full realization of the person, the religious vocation, being content to remain on hold, leaving the virus is the compass of indecision and constant in their lives. Relationships with friends, in emotional, personal choices are not fed to wider horizons, which include, for example, the dimension of the relationship with the divine, or ideals of life that involve values like renunciation, commitment, respect, forgiveness. It overlooks a myopic perspective that does not go beyond the mere play and amusement.

Radical choices

Despite the indecision dictate behavior in youth, a large proportion of young people, on the contrary, and if so, is fascinated by radical or demanding choices, such as entering the seminary or convent, from lifestyle choices that reflect deeply on the vocation. The latter still has a great appeal among young people, and has a face only a religious but also relates to a way of life, which lay on the floor retains a mature sense of responsibility, an inflexible code of ethics. On the other hand exists, and is confirmed by many sociological analysis, which leaves an uncomfortable youth ensnared by indecision, from lowering expectations, poor perception of the future.

Today it is difficult for a young face of the projects involving his personal life and let him to fruition, with the place the first brick. The quest for material wealth is the first spring in which even young people are put into play. But so busted. The inner life, human relationships are secondary and thus also their lifestyle choices and decrease the level of intensity. If your goal is just the latest generation i-pod or the "cool" to copy and burn, there is still a long way to go ... And meanwhile the indecision, insecurity, uncertainty eat their energies.

And the adults?

If young people have this tendency to decline responsibility, to falter in the face of important decisions, to being influenced by a culture devoted to the ephemeral and apparently, it is necessary that the adults themselves, who have the responsibility to educate them, follow them and prepare them to the future make a personal examination of conscience. The ruling class, for example, politicians and representatives of institutions that are doing something concrete to meet the needs of young people? Parents, teachers, educators who care about the future of their children and students, what is on offer to them as values of life: the credit card or a sense of responsibility, becoming the first class at all costs or being able to maintain positive relationships with the entire class to share?

Will surrender

Young people not only react remains, with their fervent feelings, with their priceless fantasy and groped to roll up their sleeves in their small, to return to real life that way, which seems to be lost behind a rampant consumerism and idolatry of 'apparently leaving the time that they find. So the hesitation gives way to a desire to redeem invincible ...
