2010 - A Thinking Day special flavor

Centenary of Scouting and Guiding women
Together we can end extreme poverty and hunger

On 22 February 2010, the celebration for the birthday of our founder, Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave, will have a special flavor. It will be the first of the centenary of Scouting and Guiding women and will mark the beginning of the celebrations around the world, which will last three years, and especially on the anniversary will be celebrated Feb. 22.

It is impossible, therefore, lead to a real start. That's why the centenary is celebrated in three years. To better emphasize this progressive development, each year was associated with a theme:

2010 - PLANT: plant the seed of change
2011 - GROW: we grow ideas
2012 - SHARE: we share the fruits

The badge was prepared emphasizes the scan time of celebration: it consists of three triangles, one for each year, bearing the logo of the centenary year and to which they relate, and a fourth triangle, white with silver edge. All the pieces together will form, in 2012, complete the badge. Our festival will be celebrated at the Thinking Day or the day of the year Cent (Saturday, April 10), or at least a significant moment of 2010. We can involve the entire group / section and / or open up the entire local community / parish as much as possible trying to combine the elements characterizing the celebrations: the international dimension, the good deed, the party, number 100.

The content of the centennial and its celebration is the Global Action Theme (GAT), an educational program created by , which is based on the UN Millennium Campaign. Each year is proposed to work on specific MDGs. In this way, all over the world, through the ' and mobilization, associations, leaders and can influence the choices of local governments, governments and international institutions. In 2000, during the UN Millennium Summit, 189 Heads of State and Government signed the Millennium Declaration and pledged to work together to build a better world for all, identifying concrete results to be achieved by 2015. Were adopted eight development goals. Not surprisingly, the first aims at eradicating extreme poverty and hunger. A few years from 2015, governments, NGOs and individuals who have joined the Millennium Campaign have come to realize that these goals are far from being achieved. Civil society therefore has a duty to remind governments of their commitments.

The first MDG, which we treat at the Thinking Day 2010 is just what concerns poverty and power. We ask you to reflect on the figures of hunger and a desire to eat healthily and data relating to poverty and responsible consumption. All this to learn how to stay healthy (as he said Baden-Powell), to grow in the best way to say no to that perverse economic and commercial gear that fills the plates of each emptying those of others, to avoid false advertising models , who wants us all to lean limit of anorexia, or all around a happy burger with fries, maybe GM. The Italian Federation of Scouting leaders offers several tools to carry out activities with the children on these issues. On the websites , and find many practical activities to educate the right to food. It is also a comic book ("The right to food: a window on the world", developed by FAO and WAGGGS) to communicate the content in a simple and direct.

Finally ... be careful! For Thinking Day 2010, 2011 and 2012 you will need the decoder, simply orient the antennas: you can connect with other groups in the world, this year on 20 and 21 February 2010, thanks to the Jamboree-on-the-air and online -the internet.
