A week for turtles
From June 16 to 20 there will be Turtle Week around the world events and initiatives for the protection of these species . Part of it. In the seas around the world live 7 species of sea turtles, including 3 in the Mediterranean (including the famous Caretta caretta ), but all are at risk of extinction.
Illegal fishing. Overbuilding and coastal degradation. Sea turtles swim in a sea of troubles: only in the Mediterranean every year tens of thousands of turtles caught accidentally.
The WWF , more than 40 years, is committed to the preservation of these speciein 44 countries worldwide with projects to protect the breeding sites, control the species, create business education environment and sustainable tourism. In Italy is active with several specialized recovery centers, where individuals are injured or in distress are treated and then released.
The Association, on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Archie Carr (world-renowned scientist who has made a fundamental contribution to the study of the conservation of sea turtles), June 16 to 20 in Italy and around the world promote the Turtle Week initiatives and events for the protection of sea turtles.
