Small turtles ... take off!
On the beach near our oasis of Torre Salsa, in the province of Agrigento , hatched eggs and seven baby turtles " Caretta caretta "safe and sound have reached the sea !

Enjoy your trip!
Who knows, had it not been for the intervention of a passerby, who reported on the sand tracks of three tortoises trudging toward the sea, perhaps we would not have noticed them at all. But ... but, thanks to this reporting staff of the Oasis WWF Torre Salsa was able to control and protect the nest from predators or danger.

Surprise!
So it is also able to attend "live" to hatch eggs from other sects. The offspring have been taken the sea route and now sail free waters of the Sicilian coast. It is not the first time this happens. According to the director of the Oasis, Stefania D'Angelo: "These new births confirm that the southern coast of Sicily are nesting areas of Caretta caretta. And that's why, for the next breeding season, a need for increased vigilance "!

A "Field" for sea turtles
The coastal area between Mount Stella and Bovo Marina, near Marina Siculiana (Ag), where is the Natural Reserve of Torre Salsa WWF, it is the last intact and untouched southern coast of Sicily. And along these beaches, from May to September, there was a range of volunteering to learn to recognize the traces of the turtle and monitoring procedures in case of nesting. At the camp was attended by hundreds of people.

A "network" to rescue the turtles
For many years now, WWF Italy is committed to the preservation of these beautiful (and mysterious!) Sea creatures. Among other things we have turned on all the Italian coastline, a network of recovery centers for Animals Wild (CRAS) and WWF. 10 of these, including the Centre of Lampedusa, are also crucial for research, conservation, contacts and collaboration with local authorities and fishermen. The support fisherman is in fact particularly important for achieving the goal of reducing the impact of fishing on populations of sea turtles.
