The Table of Peace "is a new experience for coordination and discussion between those who work in our country to promote peace, human rights and solidarity. Its membership comprises hundreds of associations, religious and lay organizations and local authorities of all Italian regions.
Founded January 13, 1996 at the Sacred Convent of St. Francis of Assisi by the promoters of the March for Peace Perugia / Assisi "We the people of the United Nations" (then gathered in the National Committee for the 50 'Anniversary), the "Table of Peace" is intended primarily as a reference point and a place of many threads of connection that many are following in their commitment to peace. There will be a new organization but a place of comparison, verification and common design.
A point of reference and connection: a space for knowledge, information exchange and development of cooperation between those working for peace and solidarity. The "board" wants to be an original place of meeting between associations, voluntary and local council respecting the different role of each.
A place for discussion: who is seated at the "table" does not have the constraint of unanimity, but the comparison that from time to time will be focused on specific topics and current.
A place for approval of the commitment to peace in our country, its limits, its effectiveness and its problems.
The board also wants to be the peace table unit: the place where the movement for peace may establish a program of activities and a common agenda that goes beyond the emergency.
The usefulness of the "Table" also depends on the ability to activate and food processes and not only make the events. Great attention is therefore paid to the choice of objectives and operational forms. The initiatives of the "common table" does not mean only strengthen the bargaining and political action of the movement for peace but aim to inspire a new attitude of public opinion.
Today is the Table of Peace: a network of associations, groups and local authorities; representation informal but substantially recognized in many national and international headquarters of the movement for peace, a wealth of expertise, whose gears Perugia-Assisi Shareholders of Peoples and the UN are the main elements. The Table of Peace is coordinated by Flavio Lotti and Grazia Bellini.
The Steering Committee of the Table of Peace is composed of: Association for Peace, Franciscans of the Sacred Convent of Assisi, the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights, CGIL, CISL, ARCI, ACLI, Pax Christi, Italy Emmaus, AGESCI , CIPSI, League for the Rights and Liberation of Peoples, Centre for Peace Forlì / Cesena, Drop the Debt, FIVOL-Italian Foundation for Voluntary Service, ICS, Ethical Bank, Legambiente , Peacelink, Manitese, Focsiv, CNCA, the European Federalist Movement, Blessed are the Peacemakers.
